From May to September 2023, court observers tracked the eviction process for 655 filings in St. Joseph County Small Claims court with the intention of deepening understandings of the eviction

process. This effort aimed to uncover the intricacies of the eviction process, enhance support mechanisms for tenants, and improve advocacy and access to legal resources. Although the report highlights a commendable adherence to the proper legal framework by St. Joseph County magistrates, this practice does not extend to all counties across the state.
